Proposal: Critical Perspectives - Thesis Proposal OGR

  1. Hi Polly, your initial research looks really good in terms of the quality and relevance of what you've selected. There are a few titles from the Library that might be of use for your dissertation:

Queer representation, visibility, and race in American film and television : screening the closet (available at Epsom but you can request to have it brought to Rochester by placing a hold. Ask the staff at the Library desk if you're not sure how to do this).

Gender in the Media - the copy from Rochester is unavailable atm but you can request a copy from Epsom or Farnham

The L Word - this is one of the Library's ebooks that you can access via ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/ucreative-ebooks/detail.action?docID=3416628. If you're off campus you'll need to use the 'sign in with your institution' option to view it.

I'd also recommend that you make use of the Library's Articles and Book Chapters search - you can find this under 'My Library' on MyUCA. Journal articles are great for applying theory to examples of cultural practice. I've done an example search for The L Word, but you should be able to find similar results for Tipping the Velvet etc.:

If you need any help with searching for journal articles or anything else you can book a research tutorial via the Library desk.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

  2. So I wonder if The L Word is a 'corridor' case-study that should lead to 'the most realistic representation' on screen?

    For example: Bound - Walchokwis
